Kittanning Senior High School is located in Kittanning, the county seat for Armstrong County. Kittanning, a community of light industry, wholesale and retail sales and diversified agriculture, is located along the banks of the scenic and historic Allegheny River, approximately 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh. A present day community of 8,500 people, Kittanning offers an attractive summer recreation site for campers, boaters, and fishermen.

The student population totals approximately 800 students in grades 9 thru 12. The projected enrollment will increase slightly in the near future, but otherwise remains relatively stable. The high school is fully accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For a two-year period Kittanning High School was consolidated with neighboring Ford City High School and the merger was known as Armstrong Central High School. This merger was dissolved for the 1992-93 school year and both schools assumed their original identities.

The school year is divided into two (2) semesters. Each is 18 weeks in length with nine week grade reporting periods: courses lasting one semester are awarded 0.5 credit and full year courses are awarded 1.0 credit.
