An alternative to Ashe County High School exists in the form of the ACHS Academy located at the former West Jefferson Elementary School site. The Academy provides students the chance to acquire course credits needed for graduation in a setting where there is a reduced teacher-student ratio, a dedicated NovaNet lab designed for independent practice/remediation/credit accrual, an active Wilkes Community College presence, and an active guidance curriculum focused towards life skills and specific management strategies.
