About Us

Principal's Message

The staff of Las Lomas High School is dedicated to provide the very best education possible for the students of Las Lomas. With over 90 teachers, administrators, counselors, secretaries, and other support staff, the students of Las Lomas are provided with an excellent education from a caring supportive staff. The staff of Las Lomas ranges from teachers in their first year of teaching to teachers who have served the Las Lomas community for many years. Whether someone is new to teaching or an experienced teacher, they demonstrate an enthusiasm for all of our students. Outside of the classroom, many staff members coach sports, sponsor class activities, sponsor club activities, or just attend events to support students so much. As a staff, we enjoy our jobs, our students, the support from parents and the community, and the friendship and support of one another. We are indeed lucky to be a part of this wonderful school community!

School Characteristics

Founded in 1951 as a public high school serving grades 9-12, Las Lomas is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The student population is over 1500, with a senior class of 350. Since more than 80% of the graduates go on to college, Las Lomas offers a strong college preparatory program which includes Honors and Advanced Placement courses in English, social studies, science, math, and foreign languages as well as courses in art, business, home economics, technical education, physical education, and music. Students also have the opportunity to take community occupational (ROP) courses on our campus or to concurrently enroll in classes at UC Berkeley or Diablo Valley College or in adult education courses.

Extra-curricular programs include student government and a variety of student clubs and activities. An athletic program offers competitive sports in the Tri-Valley Athletic League for boys and girls. Many of our students are participants in programs and activities sponsored by community organizations such as Rotary, Lions, and Soroptomists and Walnut Creek CASA (Community Against Substance Abuse). Community organizations not only sponsor scholarships for many graduating seniors, but also provide leadership training and community volunteer experience.

Excellence in Education

Las Lomas High School successfully serves a varied student population whose presence adds richness and depth to our students' high school experience. We meet the needs of young people from varied cultural and educational backgrounds with many special programs and support services. Las Lomas has traditionally offered a strong core program which has prepared our students to score well above the state averages in all testing and which has led to our recognition by the California Distinguished School Recognition Program in 1987-88 and in 1992 and to the school's selection by the California School Surveys as one of the top one-hundred secondary schools in the state in 1990.
