About Us
Luther Burbank High School is located in South Sacramento. We are a diverse campus of over 2400 students, representing more than 100 different cultures, religions and ethnicities. Our diverse population, and the positive interaction between these groups of students, is one of our greatest sources of pride on campus.

The school offers a variety of school-to-work and college programs, several special education programs, and a full extra-curricular program including athletics and student clubs. The school-to-work program and college prep programs include one of the top Naval Junior ROTC programs in the nation, one of the only remaining urban Agriculture programs left in Northern California, and a Ceramics Shop that has produced art work displayed all over the greater Sacramento area, not to mention the campus.

Besides many of the programs on campus, the most exciting, and perhaps unique, element of Luther Burbank is our structure. The school was built in 1963 and for the past 39 years has been a comprehensive high school like so many others that can be found across the nation. That changed in 2002 when LBHS changed to a Small Learning Community (SLC) model. The campus now "houses" eight, independent and autonomous, small learning communities, each with a different theme. These communities place a small group of students, usually around 300, with a core group of teachers. All students at Luther Burbank High School take the majority of their classes within their SLC, staying with the same group of teachers and peers for the duration of their academic years. This allows for greater interaction between teacher and student, more meaningful connections between classmates, and vastly improves a student's academic success since they are connected to a caring adult on campus for their entire high school career.

Program Goals
The focus of Luther Burbank High School is to prepare students to be successful on whatever course they take in life. Whether that be a four-year university, or a path that leads straight into a career field the student finds interesting. With that in mind we provide a multitude of opportunities that will assist students in their academic, as well as social success.

Luther Burbank High School goals are to:
-Provide a strong curriculum that aligns student progress with state benchmarks, insuring student academic success.
-Provide an educational system where every student feels connected to at least one caring adult who will assist the student in areas of academics or health and wellness.
-Create an educational environment where students feel they belong to a community that cares about them as a "whole person."
-Seamless integration of academic requirements and career themed experiences that assure our students are prepared for college or a career after graduation.
-Provide a world class education for each and every student.
-Teach subjects in the context of the real world so students understand the connection to their own success.
-Assist students in learning about themselves and their interests.
-Provide a platform for student and parental involvement in school site decision-making.
-Provide strong connections to the community that will allow for meaningful School-to-Career/Work opportunities.
-Instill a strong respect for the diversity of our nation and a passion for equity and equality for all people
