To educate all students fo a diverse community to become responsible, thinking, creative, literate citizens who strive for personal excellence, function successfully, and enrich society.
The Norristown Area High School (NAHS) was established in 1870 in the Borough of Norristown and relocated to West Norriton Township in 1972. The student population is about 1900 students in grades 9-12. Because of growth over the past few years, NAHS will be creating small learning communities within the larger facility. This will be facilitated by the district’s partnership with the Panasonic Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Education Project 720, leading the way in high school reform.
NAHS offers 10 Advanced Placement classes, SMARTT, a pilot college-level course in engineering and new this year Project Lead the Way, a pre-engineering course. The Virtual High School offers hundreds of accredited online course options for students. Staff from NAHS also participates in teaching some of these courses. Junior ROTC, designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline, was introduced in 2003.
NAHS has a full complement of boy’s and girl’s sports, musical groups and extracurricular activities including cultural, service, and drama clubs. The state-of-the-art TV production studio broadcasts both internally and a community access cable channel.
