North High School

North has moved up two steps on the state report card over the past two years -- to Continuous Improvement. It is the only Akron high school to do so.

Survey data shows the increased academic expections demanded at North are accompanied by increased self-confidence among students. All freshmen are required to take and pass honors English and honors world history.

The staff is innovative and unafraid to try new approaches to deliver better service. Conferences at Chapel Hill Mall, student-led conferences, Once Around the World and semester restart for struggling students are examples of approaches seen only at North.

North's pioneering 2004-05 displine plan holds the promise of keeping both students and classes focused on learning.

In 2004-05, North will concentrate activities into four days that will provide students with the chance to have fun and engage in traditional social events while reserving all other days for instruction.

According to federal guidelines, all North teachers are "highly qualified".

North has a wide range of special education programs, the hallmark of which is the belief that all students, regardless of special need, can learn at high levels.
