Mission and Goal Statement
Northwestern High School sees its mission as one to have all students prepared for a career, to score at or above the state average on high school assessments, to graduate, and to be able to move on to further instruction or training without the need for remediation.

Northwestern intends to accomplish its mission through the collective efforts of the entire school community. All stakeholders will be challenged to undertake whatever measures are necessary to increase student achievement, to improve attendance, to prepare all students for the High School Assessments, the Maryland State Assessments and any other standardized tests, and to assist students to develop skills and strategies that will enable them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Northwestern will provide personalized learning experiences for its students in smaller learning communities within the school. Several career academies that are based on industry-developed career clusters are being developed and implemented. Career academies offer rigorous and relevant programs of study around broad career fields that are of interest to students. Students will not only be engaged in their academic studies but also will be exposed to myriad activities that connect what they learn in the classroom with the real-world. Students will have an opportunity to participate in an internship program as a culminating activity to their career academy program of study.

In the belief that students play a vital role in their learning process, we encourage them to develop a sense of self-discipline, responsibility, and respect for self and others. We acknowledge that our educational commitment is a shared responsibility among the staff, parents, students and the community; everyone needs to be aware of and involved in the varied aspects of school life.
