About Us:

The Shannon High School complex is located in south Lee County and is attended by approximately 850 students in grades 7-12. In addition to serving Shannon and the surrounding communities, this Level 3/Successful school serves as the high school for Plantersville and Verona students. The high school building was completed in 1989 and is a source of pride for the students, teachers, and community. The building contains twenty-two classrooms, office, space, a biology room with modern equipment, a computer lab featuring the latest technology, and a media center. The focal point of the high school building is an archway removed from the 1939 building. Atop the archway is a bell from the 1910 building. Several renovation projects have been completed in the junior high building area.

In 1992 six new classrooms including an art room and a science classroom with laboratory were added. With the opening of the1995-96 school year, a 600 seat auditorium and two classrooms were ready for use. The cafeteria has received a facelift with expanded space and an upgrade of equipment. The school has an outstanding art complex staffed with three teachers that teach art and gifted art. A new gymnasium was completed during the 1994-95 school year and in fall, 1997 the home economics program became a pilot site for a Family and Consumer Science Laboratory with state-of-the-art technology. The program emphasizes personal living skills for today's young adult. Another facility opened in August, 1998 for the Tech Prep programs of Career, Computer, and Technology Discovery for students in grades 7-9 and a Career Center was set up in the high school building.

The curriculum includes academically challenging and preparatory courses along with special education; gifted and talented; speech; drama; health; drug education; foreign language; advanced courses in science, math, art, and English; music; band; and vocational courses. Middle school students can choose from honors courses in math and English, talented and gifted, gifted art, learning strategies, and drug education. Athletics teams compete in football, basketball, baseball, softball, track, golf, and tennis. The school and the community share a five-court tennis facility. The football field has undergone renovation and a new softball/baseball complex should be available for use in the fall of 2005.
