The Temple Academy had an enrollment of 40 in 1885. By 1891 there were 114 pupils, the fifth largest school in the county. The public school term was five months. In 1903 the bond proposal for $5000 was approved for the new school that would combine one room school houses from all around the area. This new school would be called "Temple Model School," whose graduates would be prepared for farming, to enter college, and to teach in the smaller, rural schools.
