History of Timberland High School

Timberland High School is a consolidated high school in rural northern Berkeley County. Three schools, Cainhoy High, Macedonia, and St. Stephen, merged in the fall of 1996 to form the new Timberland High School.

Timberland is a comprehensive school that started with approximately 1000 students in grades 9-12. The enrollment for 2015-16 is around 700. The school has a staff of approximately 57 teachers, three guidance counselors, one media specialist, three administrators, an Academy Coach/Resource Specialist, a Title I Facilitator/Curriculum Coach and a full support staff. Year long classes were reinstituted this year, with some classes maintaining the 90 minute block schedule. A 4x4 block schedule with 90 minute blocks was initiated during the 1999-2000 school year. The Ninth Grade Academy began in the fall of 2005; however, the freshmen moved back into the 4X4 schedule in the fall of 2010. Timberland became a Josten's Renaissance School in 2006 and has received national recognition through this program for four consecutive years. Timberland also adopted the High Schools That Work Initiative in 2007.
