Towns County High School
We realize that overall our children face greater social pressures than we did as children. We will begin random drug screening sometime during the month of October. Students will be selected at random. The screening will be done in the school nurses office by having the students mouth swapped with a special Q-Tip type device. The device will be sent to the drug screening company for analysis. Should your child have a positive response, we will call you for a conference to discuss the findings. Under our drug screening policy, the first positive response will require a parent conference with school administration. We will request at that conference that you get drug counseling for your child within a specific number of days. A positive result will also result in your child subject to repeated drug screenings throughout the school year. Future positive screenings may result in significant school related consequences. Drug screening results are cumulative over your child’s high school career. The purpose of the drug screening program is “not to catch a child” but to help our children. We pray that we never have a positive response on a drug screening. But should we have one, we want to be a resource of help to you and your child before they get to deeply involved in things that could cause them and those around them serious harm.
