Warsaw High School is situated in Warsaw, IL, “the Crystal City on the Point” overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River. Eleven blocks from school you can stand on “the point” and see Missouri, Iowa and the Des Moines River as it flows in to the Mississippi. An instrumental point on the river during the Black Hawk Wars, Civil War and the Underground Railroad, the area is rich in history. Warsaw High celebrated its 146th graduation last year.
Warsaw High (220+ students) is made up of students from the many surrounding areas (Tioga, Sutter, Basco, Warsaw, the bottoms, Nauvoo and Niota). Warsaw High operates on the 8-Block schedule and offers one of the most varied and complete curriculums in the state. Students can choose from over 150 classes including 22 dual-credit classes (over 54 hrs college credit offered on campus) and 48 vocational classes (including national certification in welding and heavy machine operating and a state and nationally recognized FFA Program). Fine arts also play a large role in the offerings at WHS. Band, jazz band, marching band, and chorus, combined with variety and musical plays, offer outlets for our talented students. Warsaw High, itself has been rewarded nationally with the “Most Improved School in Illinois” Award given by Business Week Magazine.
Success is a major part of the mission of Warsaw High. With a graduation rate of around 95%, it is not uncommon for 80+% of our students to go on to further their learning in universities and colleges (community and votec) from coast to coast. Traditionally our students receive upwards of $250,000 of scholarships, yearly. Our teachers take pride in the success of our students.
The community, as do our teachers, support the success and driving interests of our students. The communities feeding Warsaw High have passed two referendums since 2001, both by margins of 75% - 25%. Through the Life-Track system, we stay in touch with our students receiving feedback and support for years after graduation.
