Wells High School

First established in 1919, Wells High School has a rich history of excellence in academics, activities, and other student development. At Wells High School's beginning in 1919, there were few graduates; however, the school has been growing slowly, but surely since that time.

The first Wells High School, at the time of its construction in 1919, was a first class facility. Sporting several beautiful red brick buildings, the first Wells High School was quite an asset to the small town of Wells. These buildings included a large, main classroom building, an all new gymnasium, and even a dormitory used by students who were unable to make a daily commute to school from their rural homes. The dorm and the gymnasium remain to this day serving as a converted office building housing the Wells city hall and police station, and a shop housing equipment for the City of Wells.

In 1954, the main building of Wells High School was torn down for safety reasons. Because of this, the task of coming up with a new school for the town of Wells was presented. The Elko County School District, after this occurrence, apportioned money for a new school. The new building, following Wells' tradition, was also a first class facility. This new building had a large gymnasium, auditorium, office, and eight classrooms. It is still used to this day.

In 1961, a new wing was added to the building to accommodate the growing number of students in the Wells area. This wing included a new library and four more classrooms. A music room, welding shop, wood shop, drafting room, and a new greenhouse have been added.

Then in 2000, a new library was added to the school. In 2003-2004 another new addition is being added to the school consisting of a new wood shop, drafting room, welding shop, ag room, and a music room.

Today, 210 students (grades 7-12) walk the halls of Wells High School. With a wonderful faculty and a sense of our history, we students continue on our journey of higher learning.
